But anyway, your fetishism for bourgeois elections proves beyond doubt that you're just social democrats.
Any idea if Aberdeen SSP are going to put in a team for Tuesday's SCND pub quiz? It's an annual thing and most of the progressive groups in Aberdeen put in a team or two [as well as the odds and sods teams]. I did send a message about this earlier to Ewan but assumed he and the rest of the comrades were still busy with exams etc.

It's at Cafe D'ag at 7.30 on Tuesday & it's £5 per team. There will be prizes and a raffle.

Dear Lois,

I will confirm this over the next day or so, but we will likely be holding our next open meeting a week on Wednesday (19th). There are several people also interested in joining, so there could be a few of you who are new, and of course it is fine to turn up and see how you find it. We will announce our next meeting in the 'branch meetings' page on the website, as well as our facebook page (link in the contact section of the website).

   Regards,

Dear Brett Harper,

We discussed the issue of meeting with Solidarity members at our branch meeting last night. We are certainly up for meeting and discussing issues of common concern, and having a fraternal relationship between socialist groups in Aberdeen, even if they are not currently within the same formal organisation, is certainly in all of our best interests.

Currently we are very much occupied with our election campaign, however once the election is over it could be fruitful to meet up then if that is something you would be up for. Nearer the time I can also forward this to you in an email. Finally, if you want to discuss things with us further you are welcome to join our facebook group (link is on the website) and start a discussion with us there.

    Kind Regards,

If you are able to make our meeting this Wednesday evening (7.30pm in the Belmont cinema cafe, downstairs), then we could give you any election material then. Other than that, we will be announcing on the website when we are doing stalls if you want to come along and speak to us then, we are always welcoming of newcomers and those wanting to give us a hand.

   Cheers,

Dear David,

I will be happy to attend, and will pass the invite on to the other Aberdeen members of the SSP.

Dear Brett,

Sorry not to have replied properly yet on the matter on having Solidarity members along to one of our meetings. I have to admit that along with election preparations and my/our other committments we've not had any significant discussion on the topic yet, but I really will get back to you on this, and apologies again for the delay.

    Kind Regards,

Scottish Campaign For Nuclear Disarmament are holding an Elections Hustings on Friday 30th April at 7.30 to which the candidates from the various parties standing in Aberdeen North have been invited and I was asked to contact yourselves. The venue will be either the Arts Centre or Peacocks Print. Previous hustings of this type have usually generated an audience of around 40-50 people with a certain amount of press coverage. Bearing in mind the SSP's policy on nuclear weapons and the party's anti-war stance the audience should be largely positive and if any SSP members wish to come along they will be welcome.
Could you get back to me on this as soon as is convenient so we can firm up the organisation.

Aye, your right there Euan about the pish job opportunitys that will be open to the public, from Donald Trumps golf course.

Like a mate of mine is a golf course greenkeeper. He told me about how most of the jobs as greenkeepers are only seasonal, from about april to november- meaning for the other half of the year you will have to find meaningless employment rather than greenkeeping, your chosen profession. And normaly, the typical golf course only requires 4-6 greenkeepers at a time anyways, so its hardly going to require many staff to maintain the course- and out of those lets say 6 greenkeepers, 2 or 3 will be seasonal positions. To add to this, the rate of pay for greenkeepers in private golf clubs, such as trumps, tend to be lower than the pay for greenkeepers in local council run golfcourses. Most greenkeepers in private clubs dont expect to earn much more than minimum wage, provided they are not the head greenkeeper.

As for access to the course itself, how many members of the public in Aberdeen will actually use the golf course? Very few i will assure you, since the fees for a game of golf on the course will probably be in the region of £100-£150 in line with prices of other professional courses such as St.Andrews at £130 a round! And of course, membership will be in its thousands of pounds, and on top of that, due to the closed network that is golf clubs, you will need to know people to put you forward for consideration for membership, to even get in the club, in the first place.

Dear Solidarity members above,

As the member currently charged with updating the website, I can only respond at first in a personal capacity. Firstly, I greatly appreciate the sentiments expressed in your messages above. If socialist ideas and politics are to develop and offer a meaningful alternative to society, then socialists need to be able to organise and work together, not against each other, and myself and the wider SSP are absolutely for left unity in Scotland, as well as an internationalist unity further afield. In Aberdeen in particular, even while we are in different left organisations, I have no intention of, and no interest in, sectarian left politics of any kind. Thus even while we are currently in different organisations, I see no reason why we should not be fraternal with each other.

In terms of meeting, that is something I will bring up with the other branch members and get back to you, as with both that and the issue of the split I don't want to comment on out of turn.

Therefore I will get back to you on the issues raised and personally express my support for a united left based on a principled unity and value your comments above.

   Fraternally,

   Ewan, Aberdeen SSP

Hi Brothers and Sisters,

I was once a member of the SSP but chose to join Solidarity. I did this being in possession of a number of fact. I made the decision based on what i thought was appropriate and the best thing for Socialism. I did this only after opposing the split.
Anyway the split has been a bloody disaster for Socialism.
I call for us to get back together as a unified front! We can do this and hopefully influence other regions to do the same. Lets forget about the hierarchy on both sides and take control of our party.
We are all socialist and must get back together.
Can Solidarity members attend SSP meeting to discuss??

Hi there

I joined Solidarity when it was formed but will vote SSP if Solidarity doesn't have a candidate in Aberdeen North. I think it is really sad that we find ourselves in different parties...How can we put that all behind us and move forward together again?

Cheers
